Paul Kraus was born in 1944 in Austria and migrated with his parents to Australia as a young child. In the 1960s Paul worked near a factory where asbestos sheets were sawn into smaller pieces. In 1997 Paul was diagnosed with malignant mesothelioma (specifically peritoneal mesothelioma), an aggressive cancer that has a median survival of 9-12 months.

Despite his cancer, Paul Kraus continues to thrive and enjoys a good quality of life. His last book, "Surviving Mesothelioma and Other Cancers: A Patient's Guide," was written based on his experience surviving cancer despite having rejected conventional therapies. Paul has had no chemotherapy, radiation or surgery[1] because his doctors explained that these therapies were merely palliative and could severely impact the quality of his life without having a significant affect on his length of life. Instead he adopted lifestyle changes and used a variety of integrative therapies that included: a reformed vegetarian diet, intravenous vitamin C, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and various herbs such as Cat's Claw, among others.
