Paul Janes (March 10, 1912 in Küppersteg – June 12, 1987 in Düsseldorf) was a German football player. he earned 71 caps and scored 7 goals for the Germany national football team from 1932 to 1942, and played in two World Cups: 1934 and 1938. Germany's most capped player of the 1930s (71 caps), member of the Breslau Eleven Janes belonged to that team, that struck 1937 in Breslau Denmark with 8:0 and went into the German soccer story. Playing at centre back he was considered a tuff tackler and was not scared of a challenge. Many consider him to be among the top 10 German defenders of all time. The DFB German Football Association ( German FA) list him in the top 20 best German footballers of all time,
Some critics say he would have won player of the tournament World Cup: 1934 but at the time in Italy, Italian leader Benito Mussolini used the hosting of the World Cup to promote nationalism and his National Fascist Party and there was controversy surrounding the favourable treatment of the Italian team and its players. His home team was Fortuna Düsseldorf, where he worked as trainer after the war. during his playing career Düsseldorf dominated the division through the 30's and made losing appearances in the national final in 1936 (1:2 to 1.
