Paul J. Gelinas Jr. High School, named after Paul J. Gelinas, is one of the two junior high schools which serve the Three Village Central School District on Long Island, the other being Robert Cushman Murphy Junior High School. These two schools house grades 7 through 9, differing from most intermediate level schools which typically hold grades 6 through 8. Both schools prove to have high education and athletic standards. Both of these schools feed into Ward Melville High School.

[edit] Theatre Arts Program

The school is well-known in the Three Village community for putting on particularly large scale musicals for the middle school / junior high school level. For many years they were directed by Vincent Vizzo, who is now principal of Robert Cushman Murphy Junior High School. They are now directed by Robert DePersio. From 1984-2002, the program did one musical a year. Starting in the 2003-2004 school year, they put on three shows a year- a children's production, an informational show dealing with adolescent issues, and a large-scale musical.


[edit] Science Olympiad

Gelinas's Science Olympiad team has placed 1st in Suffolk County eight years in a row (2001-2008). The team also placed first in New York State in 2006, 2007, and 2008. They have advanced to Nationals five times. In 2003, the team's first time at Nationals, they placed 17th[2]. In 2005, they placed 7th in the nation[3]. In 2006, they placed 6th[4], in 2007, they placed 9th[5] and 10th in 2008.

It is also very well known for its football team, which has continued to have an undefeated season every year since 1981. Many graduates continue to private school football, with notable graduates including Adrian Peterson until the seventh grade, and the less well known Bobby Blizzard of the Cincinnati Bengals. The teams are coached by Edwin Murphy. Led by star quarterback Kevin McKeever, Gelinas went undefeated with McKeever throwing 53 touchdown passes breaking the state record. Also, John Greco is the greatest lacrosse and wrestling player too go there. He led the Patriots Varsity lacrosse team with 50 goals and 69 assists. As a wrestler he went undefeated and won national's with the help of coach Hoppey. Greco will be attending Syracuse for his full- lacrosse scholarship. Jack for prez.
