Paul Hubbert

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Dr. Paul R. Hubbert (born December 25, 1935 in Hubbertsville, Alabama) is a Democratic politician from the U.S. state of Alabama. Since 1969, he has served as executive secretary-treasurer of the Alabama Education Association, the state's largest union for teachers. In reality, he is the president.

In his position as leader of a 94,000-member union, Hubbert exerts a great deal of influence on Alabama politics. In 1990, Hubbert ran as the Democratic nominee in the Alabama gubernatorial election, losing to Republican incumbent H. Guy Hunt. Hubbert, always controversial, is under fire for his support of employing legislators at the two-year colleges for whom they secure funds.
