[edit] History
Noddy and the Satellites were two local bands that Hartnoll played with during the mid 1980's. It was in 1987 that Paul and his brother Phil started recording under the name Orbital with keyboards, a beat box, and a 4-track.[2]
Orbital split up in 2004 after they had made seven albums and became legendary for the performance and production of their shows.[4] Since then, Hartnoll worked towards the release of his first solo album, titled The Ideal Condition, which was released on 28 May 2007.
Hartnoll decided that he wanted to do something different than what Orbital had been doing[4], and The Ideal Condition is what came of that. There is a more acoustic lean on this album because that's how he thought it would work best. Arranger Chris Elliot helped Hartnoll to turn the album in another direction and take music that Orbital would have done electronically, and had it played by a union-full orchestra.[4]
Hartnoll has had one strength since the beginning; a sense of great collaboration. People who are featured collaborating on The Ideal Condition are Robert Smith (The Cure), Joseph Arthur (US singer-songwriter), Lianne Hall (Brighton), and Akayzia Parker (South London).[4]
