Paul Danan is a British actor who played Sol Patrick in the United Kingdom teen soap opera Hollyoaks between 1997-2001. In 2005, Danan appeared in Celebrity Love Island.
On stage, Paul played the part of the Monster in Desires of Frankenstein by James Martin Charlton at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2002.[1]
In 2005 Danan appeared as a contestant on the first series of ITV1's Celebrity Love Island, and returned for the second series in 2006.[2] During the first series, Danan is alleged to have had sex with fellow contestant Nikki Ziering.[3][4]
He recently presented a British Television series entitled Test drive my Girlfriend on ITV2.[5] In the show he acts as a modern-day Cupid and dates the girls first. Paul meets the loveless bachelors to discover why they are single, assesses their love requirements and auditions suitable girls all over the UK to draw up a shortlist of two potential lovers.
In September 2006 he appeared on ITV2's "Calum, Fran and Dangerous Danan" in which he spent 2 weeks with Calum Best and Fran Cosgrave, travelling from Texas to Los Angeles on America's Route 66.[6] Along the way they had to earn money for their own food and petrol by working in places such as restaurants, garages, ranches and nightclubs.
In 2006, Danan was awarded a Loaded Laftas Comedy Award for funniest reality TV personality.[7]
It was reported on 22nd November 2007 that he had been sacked from his forthcoming role as Jack in Jack and the Beanstalk at the Charter Theatre, Preston. This follows an incident where he had to apologise after he swore several times down the microphone at 3,000 people who had gathered to see him switch on the Christmas lights in Preston city centre. The Leader of Preston Council, Ken Hudson said his outburst was "a disgrace". He was also hit with an £80 on the spot fine by police at the event.[8] The offensive term he uttered was "make some motherfucking noise Preston!".[9]
On 21st March 2008, Danan appeared as a guest on Channel 4's Balls of Steel. He was a victim of a prank in which a mute conversed with him using sign language, and signs appeared rude to Danan but were translated innocently by a co-presenter. Danan was quick to ask if the mute is insulting him, and made no apology when told otherwise.
[edit] Other facts
Danan has become a minor celebrity in Spain, after dating Spanish pop princess Natalia. Comedian Patrick McGuiness uses Danan's name frequently in his jokes.
