[edit] Academics
[edit] Gifted/Talented Program
Paul Breaux Middle School is the only school in the Lafayette Parish Public Schools system that provides this program for those who needs to study advanced material. Students may choose to participate in this program when students pass the Gifted/Talented entry exam. This exam may be taken in any grade. The Gifted program offers more challenging courses and may even allow students to gain high school credit in middle school (i.e. Algebra I, Physcial Science...)
[edit] French Immersion Program
The French Immersion Program allows students who speak fluent French to learn in a French environment. Different subjects are taught in French such as mathematics, sciences, and the social studies. Students may also take English in French. This way, students advance in both French and the subject that they are studying.
[edit] Academic Clubs
[edit] Science Olympiad
The Paul Breaux Science Olympiad team Division B has been the state champion for 12 years in a row, as of 2008. The team has been to numerous National Science Olympiad competitions, and has won numerous awards. In 2007, the Balloon Race event won 3rd place, with participating members Yuechen Zhao and Aaron Blanchard. SumoBots and Bottle Rockets, both trial events, also did exceedingly well.
[edit] Junior Beta Club
The Paul Breaux Junior Beta Club is an active club doing community service to the school and the Lafayette community. Each year, students raise money and donate to the Iraqi troops, Habit for Humanity, giving money and food to the poor, and helping the school with various activities. Students must have a 3.5 GPA at all times; students falling behind this requirement may be on probation for that grading period. This club also attends the state convention at Cajundome once a year.
[edit] About the School
Paul Breaux Middle school started as an elementary school, later became a high school, and finally made the change to middle school. Paul Breaux has a football field and track, boy's and girl's gyms, a main building, and a gifted building. The main building holds most of the academic classes and the gifted building is for gifted classes only. Because it was a high school, it actually gives the students the feel of traveling on a high school campus.
