Paul Bernard is a former professional footballer, playing in midfield. He played for Oldham, Aberdeen (whom he joined for a club-record £1m in 1995), Barnsley, Plymouth Argyle, St Johnstone and Drogheda United. Soon after joining the Dons, he helped them to win the 1995-96 Scottish Football League Cup. He was also capped twice for Scotland during the 1995 Kirin Cup.

Bernard remains the only player that a Scottish club outside the Old Firm has ever spent £1 million on.[citation needed]
