Paul Émile Chabas

Paul Émile Chabas (1869 - 1937) was a French painter and member of the Académie des beaux-arts. He was a student of William-Adolphe Bouguereau.
Paul Chabas's September Morn
His preferred subject was a nude young girl in a natural setting. His most famous painting is September Morn, which became a "Succès de scandale". Anthony Comstock, head of the New York Society for the Suppression of Vice, protested against the painting as supposedly immoral, resulting in fame and reproductions of the painting being widely sold.
The painting has often been cited as an example of Kitsch.
