[edit] Playing career
[edit] Club
O’Sullivan plays his club hurling with his local Cloyne club, however, he has yet to enjoy any major success. O’Sullivan and his brother had a large presence on the team when Cloyne competed in three consecutive county finals in 2004, 2005 and 2006, however, the team was defeated on all three occasions, thus becoming the first team since Ballincollig in the 1940s to lose three county finals in-a-row.
[edit] Inter-county
O’Sullivan first came to prominence on the inter-county scene as a member of the Cork minor team in the early 2000s. He captured a Munster title in this grade in 2005, however, Cork were later defeated in the All-Ireland semi-final. In 2006 O’Sullivan captured a second consecutive Munste rminor medal, however, once again Cork were defeated in the All-Ireland series. He later joined the Cork under-21 hurling team; however, injury meant that he missed out on Cork’s triumph in Munster in 2007 and their subsequent All-Ireland defeat by Galway. Injuries also menat that O’Sullivan also misse dout on the chance to join the Cork senior hurling team in 2007.
The 2008 National Hurling League saw O’Sullivan’s hurling performances impress the manager and the selectors. Because of this he earned his first start in the senior championship in the 2008 Munster semi-final against Tipperary.
