[edit] Assertions
For what they are worth, hereinunder begins a collection of assertions:
[edit] Inkscape file format
Can you explain the basis of the following change to the "Comparison of vector graphics editors" page, concerning inkscape's file format ? http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Comparison_of_vector_graphics_editors&diff=185710423&oldid=185235068
My understanding is that the "Inkscape SVG" format contains a strict superset of the "Simple SVG" format, differing only in the addition of some annotations to help future editing rather than anything that affects the appearance of the saved file. Specifically, I believe this was the case one or two releases ago when I was last heavily involved in Inkscape development.
If that is not the case now, then that sounds like a bug, and should be reported as such.
For the moment, I've boldly undone your modification, but I'd be interested in hearing the basis of your change. Pjrm (talk) 12:20, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
- Patrick has replied on my talk page. I'm unfamiliar with wikipedia conventions as to whether discussions should be held in one place (easier to follow the discussion) or each reply on the recipient's talk page (easier for the recipient to see the reply), so I'll follow Patrick's steps.
- Patrick, thank you for your reply. Would you mind pointing to files that had problems, and what the problems were? Meanwhile I'll try doing some tests of my own. What version of inkscape were you using? It would be sad to find that inkscape-annotated format created problems for some viewer software. Pjrm (talk) 12:13, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
- The last two matches in:
- may be relevant. I note that for one of them (Mandarin_Sub-Dialects.svg) the original version had inkscape annotations whereas the most recent version does not; whereas for Origin_of_Chinese_Languages.svg, both the original and current versions have inkscape annotations. - I don't remember what the original problems were. I recall that the most trouble I had with Inkscape involved a series of short lines that were supposed to represent the cross-sections of four telescopes all aimed at two slits in one screen. Sometimes the space between the pairs of lines was filled in. But what looked o.k. on my computer at home got drastically changed when it was uploadeed to Wikipedia and shown. (Media:Wheeler experiment problems.svg) It looks like older versions of this diagram are being preservered on the Commons. P0M (talk) 19:43, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Horse gait
Years ago you contributed to Horse gait; I have been working on several related pages and would welcome your help. --Una Smith (talk) 02:25, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
- Hi! What articles did you have in mind? I wrote something on horse gaits just because I kind of know enough about it to know what I'm not sure of, and (sometimes) to know what somebody else shouldn't be so sure of. I have trained, from scratch, an Arabian mare by the Powell method (in John Solomon Rarey's book), and mounted her for my first ride with nary a buck or sign of discontent. Beyond that, most of what I know is from standard books like those of Margaret Cabell Smith. P0M (talk) 04:03, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

- Oops, I left off this: see Talk:Horse gait#Group gaits. --Una Smith (talk) 04:36, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
