I would dispute the comment: "3. They are high in Guanine + Cytosine content, meaning more G+C base pairs than A+T." I have lecture handouts written by a Professor of Molecualr Biology at Edinburgh University that explicitly show the G+C content of a pathogenicity island (PAI) at lower than 50%, although I have no Journal reference. As an element that is frequently horizontally transferred, would it be better just to say that a feature of PAIs is that they have a different %G+C content? Have I missed something important (please tell me Iàve got an exam in a few days!LOL) I would suggest that more research needs to be done. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 62.56.68.31 (talk) 16:30, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
I've found a journal reference now. The abstract is here: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/11018140?dopt=Abstract I'm relatively new to editing wikipedia and I don't know how to insert a reference. The above comment is correct - in the words of the abstract "...the G+C content of pathogenicity islands often differs from that of the rest of the genome...". Well I did it in the end and I just had to learn how. Entered the reference I found above and fiddles with the formatting so that its better. I need to change the style of the reference so that it fits with other wikipedia stuff - most of the reference secitions designate half the article width to each reference and I don't know how to do that yet. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 129.215.230.117 (talk) 22:19, 30 April 2008 (UTC)
