Pat RyanPat Ryan (curler) — This is a contested move that I have already tried at 23:38, 20 April 2007 to make to make way for a dab. The move was reverted at 00:11, 21 April 2007 by User:Earl Andrew with the misleadign edit summary "Far more notable than the other Pat Ryan", which is not in fact true. A google of Pat Ryan shows Pat Ryan (executive) listed first. Pat Ryan only shows on the first page of search results for his WP article. No other pages show for him on the first page. He is a world champion of a minor sport from some time ago. The executive is in the news these days as the Chairman of the Chicago 2016 Olympic bid committee and is the founder of a Fortune 500 company. This move should not have been contested. Debates have been going on [1] & [2] with no satisfactory resolution. TonyTheTiger (talk/cont/bio) 17:52, 27 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Survey

Add  # '''Support'''  or  # '''Oppose'''  on a new line in the appropriate section followed by a brief explanation, then sign your opinion using ~~~~. Please remember that this is not a vote; comments must include reasons to carry weight.
  • Suppport - Pat Ryan the curler is not sufficiently popular (or sought as a search result) to warrant status as the Primary Pat Ryan over Pat Ryan (executive). The executive shows as the first search result in a google search even though the curler has had a WP page for a year and a half. TonyTheTiger (talk/cont/bio) 17:53, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Oppose - Google is not a valid way to determine which is more notable, because the curler won his wold championships before google existed. It's unfair, and totally biased to use google in this instance. Remember WP:NPOV -- Earl Andrew - talk 19:37, 27 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Strong Support - Google is not a valid way to determine which is more notable in most cases. When the primary use is not clear, it is far better to had a dab page and let the users/editors get to the right article rather then leaving them a wrong article. And lets not forget Pat Ryan (football player), Pat Ryan (boxer) and Pat Ryan. Actually doing that research has convinced me to change my vote to strong! Vegaswikian 23:07, 29 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Oppose - Google is not a valid source to determine which subject matter is more notable, in most cases. When the primary use of the source is not clear, it is far important to remember that the onus of proof is not a critical subject here. Actually doing that research has convinced me to oppose this move! Mailcpathetsang 21:39, 30 April 2007 (UTC)
  • Oppose A world champion in an Olympic sport and three-time Brier champion far outweighs an Olympic bid executive. As long as Chicago hasn't actually been awarded the Olympics, the executive is likely to be solely of local Chicago interest. Even after that, it will be limited to the U.S. unless he is made the head of the organizing committee. Joeldl 00:00, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

It was requested that this article be renamed but there was no consensus for it be moved. --Stemonitis 17:41, 2 May 2007 (UTC)
