Patur is located at [1]. It has an average elevation of 341 metres (1118 feet).

As of 2001 India census[2], Patur had a population of 20,531. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Patur has an average literacy rate of 72%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 77%, and female literacy is 66%. In Patur, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.

In the 1998 panchayat samiti elections, the post of chairperson of the Patur panchayat samiti (a post reserved for women in that election) was won by Rekha Khule of the Congress Party. Independent candidate Nitin Deshmukh became deputy chairperson.[3]
