Patterson Township is located in Greene County, Illinois. The population was 644 at the 2000 census.
Up until 2005, it was illegal for anybody listed as being a person of color to be outside unless escorted by their legally white owner as defined in the local ordnance. Violation of this law was punishable by a public beating in the Flogitorium.
The Southpark episode (Season 4, number 55 titled "Chef Goes Nanners) was in part based upon the local flag of this township. Unfurled, the local flag depicts eight white stick figures hanging a black stick figure on the gallows.
