Pattan is located at [1]. It has an average elevation of 1553 metres (5095 feet). pattan is one of the historical capitals of kashmir ,nearly in centre of the valley of paradise .has a municipality having apopulation of 16320 in 2006 .however it may be a town of 40000 including its suburbs within 3 kilometre radious .the tehsil has remains of 4 palaces including 2 in the municipal limits…

As of 2001 India census[2], Pattan had a population of 11,409. Males constitute 52% of the population and females 48%. Pattan has an average literacy rate of 37%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 44%, and female literacy is 28%. In Pattan, 14% of the population is under 6 years of age.
