The Patriotic Rock/Freedom Rock is a large (56 ton, 12 foot high) boulder located South West of Des Moines, Iowa. One mile south of Interstate 80 exit #86 (Greenfield-Guthrie Center exit) on Highway 25. ( )
Each year since 1999 the rock has been painted for Memorial Day with different scenes with the purpose of thanking U.S. veterans and their families for their service and sacrifice. The rock is painted by Ray "Bubba" Sorensen II.
