Patrick Sands (circa 1567-1635[1])was the third Principal of Edinburgh University, serving from 1620 until demitting office in 1622. He was a "layman who had been unsuccessful at the bar", and was appointed as Principal by the town council in 1620, in an act seen by some as "scandalous nepotism"[2]
