[edit] Club career

Owomoyela, a right-sided defender/midfielder with stamina, began his career with modest German clubs. In 2003, he switched to Arminia Bielefeld, then in the second division, achieving promotion.

In 2005-06, Owomoyela joined German giants SV Werder Bremen, and was the undisputed starter at right back, as the side finished runner-up. With the arrival of Clemens Fritz the following season, however, he lost his starting position.

[edit] International career

Owomoyela debuted for Jürgen Klinsmann's national side in an Asian tour, playing 90 minutes in a 3-0 win over Japan, on December 16, 2004, in Yokohama. He also appeared against South Korea and Thailand, and was finally overlooked for Germany's World Cup final squad.

[edit] Personal

In addition to his football skills, Owomoyela is also a very good basketball player, having played in the German regional league before switching to football full time. He also has provided commentary for German-language telecasts of NBA games.
