Patrick M. Neuwirth Played guitar for a basement band in 1992, featuring future members of the band Slipknot, including Shawn Crahan and Paul Gray.
At the time of his involvement, the band went through several name changes, finally settling on 'Painface'. The true 'sound' of the band at that time can be credited to Paul and Shawn, as they wrote a majority of the music. Patrick added some color guitar and solo work but was brought on to free up Paul to continue his mastery of the base. Andrew Rouw (later known as Anders Colsefni) added his vocal and song writing ability to the mix.
Painface was only together for a few months but they made the most of their time before getting kicked out of the basement. The songs "Gently" and "Slipknot" were born here, as was the multiple drummer philosophy. Other lesser known songs such as "idiot" and "What's Wrong" were hashed out during this time.
During two separate recording sessions in the basement, the band put together what came to be known as the "early sessions" of Slipknot using a Fostex 4 track tape recorder. These recordings have made the rounds of several posting sites over the past several years and include 2 different versions of the songs mentioned above.
Patrick left the band in the spring of '92 to pursue his true passion as an artist and metal sculptor. He currently owns and operates a 'Functional Art' fabrication business outside of Ft Worth Texas. And is currently showing in more than 300 galleries around the country and overseas.
