Patrick Hamilton of Kincavil
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sir Patrick Hamilton (d. 1520) was a Scottish nobleman, and younger brother of James Hamilton, 1st Earl of Arran. He was also nephew of King James IV.
In 1520, as a result of rivalry between the Hamiltons and the 'Black' Douglases, he helped instigate the street brawl in Edinburgh, known as 'Cleanse the Causeway'. The fight turned out badly for the Hamiltons, and Sir Patrick was killed.
He was the father of Patrick Hamilton, who became an early martyr of the Scottish Reformation.
