Pathways to Housing

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pathways to Housing is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1992 by Sam Tsemberis[1]. The goal of the organization is to provide housing for the mentally-challenged homeless of New York City. Often these people suffer from substance-abuse problems as well, such as alcoholism or frequent drug abuse.

As one of the first adopters of the Housing first philosophy in the United States, Pathways to Housing currently assists over 500 individuals in New York City without requiring mandatory participation in treatment options as a prerequisite for housing. The organization boasts an 85% retention rate in keeping qualified individuals off the streets[2].
