[edit] Patara in India
The village of Patara is located in the state of Punjab in north India.
[edit] Location
The village is located off the Jalandhar-Hoshiarpur Road and is about 8-9 km from the Jalandhar city centre. Heading towards Delhi from Jalandhar City, one will come to a roundabout from which taking a left will take you onto the Jalandhar-Hoshiarpur Road and Patara is on the right-hand side about 3km down this road. There is a paved road off the Jalandhar-Hoshiarpur Road taking you to Patara. (At the time of the Author's visit (February 1st 2006) there was a sign on the road (courtesy of the State Bank of India) indicating the location of their branch in Patara.)
Once you turn into this road, about 700m down the road is a fairly large Gurudwara compound on the left-hand side. Further down the road (about another 700m) you will come to a railway crossing and Patara starts immediately after this crossing.
[edit] Area Information
Patara has a commercial centre including a Bank, a sub-Post Office (Indian Postal Service Pin Code 144101) and various shops and service providers. There is a small Gurudwara at the end of the road. The streets are fairly narrow and suitable for single-lane driving only. The land around the village is flat and fertile.
