Patrick Shannon Whelan was born in South Elmsall, a former coal mining village in West Yorkshire.

Debut "Stand Up Pat Whelan" EP was released on Christmas Eve, 2006. Originally championed by Rough Trade Shops in London, numerous favourable reviews followed. Although Digital Downloads are still available - the physical release (CD) is long sold out.

"Debut EP from this mysterious Yorkshireman. Released through the fledgling Hard Graft label on Christmas eve 2006, this sets the bar very high for anything to follow. Strong lyrics, softly sung on four gorgeous, slow-burning songs thankfully shed a little light on an artist who would seemingly prefer to remain anonymous. 'Not Comfortable' performing live for the moment - it would be a real shame if this release passed unnoticed due to a lack of (self?) promotion. A sublime string arrangement on 'with this bullet' from Paris Motel's Amy May completes a very special package indeed. For fans of Elliott Smith, Cass McCombs and Richard James' (from Gorky's) solo work..." [1]

Pat played his first ever live concert in May, 2007 & has been gigging regularly since.

Pat's current project is The Samanas & an LP is expected later in the year.

Pat is also behind the Hard Graft label.
