Pat Loughrey

Patrick 'Pat' Loughrey is the Director of BBC Nations and Regions.
He was born in 1955 in County Donegal. He studied at the University of Ulster (BA Hons History 1976), Queen's University, Belfast and Trent University in Ontario, Canada. He worked as a teacher, then did freelance broadcasting for UTV, the BBC, and RTÉ, before joining the BBC in 1984 as an education producer. In 1988, he became Head of Educational Broadcasting for BBC Northern Ireland. He became Head of Programmes in 1991.
He was the Controller of BBC Northern Ireland from 1994-2000. He moved to BBC Nations and Regions in May 2000, giving him responsibility over the BBC's services in Scotland, Northern Ireland, Wales and English regional broadcasting. He is the project leader for the BBC North Project in Salford Quays in Manchester.
In January 1988, he published a book called The People of Ireland, a companion the BBC series. He received the University of Ulster's Distinguished Graduate Award in 1997.
