Hi, Parammon, welcome to WikiProject LGBT Studies!

We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying, categorizing, and improving articles of interest to the LGBT community. Some points that may be helpful:

  • Our main aim is to help improve LGBT-related articles, so if someone asks for help with an article, please try your hardest to help them if you are able.
  • Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
  • The project has several ongoing and developing activities, such as article quality assessment, peer review and a project-wide article collaboration, all of which you are welcome to take part in. We also have a unique program to improve our lower quality articles, Jumpaclass, so please consider signing up there.
  • If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to our translation section, to help us improve our foreign LGBT topics.
  • If you're planning to stay, have a square in our quilt! You can put anything you want in it.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask on the talk page, and we will be happy to help you.

Project News
  • The LGBT Portal has once again been revamped and a work rota started. Efforts towards Featured Portal status are slowly coming together.
  • The assessment system has been a great success, we have tagged over 4000 articles! Please tag any LGBT related articles you come across by adding {{LGBTProject | class=}} to the talkpage. Please see the Assessment Department for how to assess an article according to the grading system.
  • The Translation department has changed its focus, to LGBT articles about non-English topics and people on which there may be more information on the relevant foreign Wikipedia. Please add your name if you are fluent in any language other than English.
  • Jumpaclass is picking up slowly, with nine people having entered. With over 2000 stubs we need to improve our article quality. Please sign up and get it going! Challenge another user to see how far you can jump a stub!
  • There is an ongoing discussion about the current LGBT categorisation system here, here, and a little bit here. A special page has now been set up here to deal with this.
  • A Watchlist has been set up to monitor controversial and/or highly vandalised articles. It can also be used for article disputes, just add a note explaining the nature of the dispute.
  • With the influx of so many active members, there is now enough support for a LGBT studies peer review, which may be found here. It's in the beta phase at the moment, so bear with us if we make any mistakes. Feel free to peer review any articles you have been working on.
  • It was agreed this month to start reducing the uses of the Notice board, as many members felt that it was not effective. An open tasks template has been created, bringing together important announcements, FAC/FARs, Peer reviews, XfDs, the COTM, and requested articles. You may desire to watchlist it. A Deletion sorting subpage is also now working to bring together XfDs - this should be bot-driven, but we have not currently tagged enough articles to make this fully automated, so please update the list with any LGBT-related XfDs you come across.

Thanks for your addition to the quilt. It should have been mentioned before, but only material that is free from copyright should be posted on the quilt. Fair use does not cover use of copyright images other than to illustrates article where no free version is available. As the quilt is just for fun and not an article, only free images can be added, sorry. WJBscribe 23:20, 4 February 2007 (UTC)

Wikipedia has a difficult time making proper use of self-copyrighted content unless it's under certain licenses. If you can change the licensing of the image, perhaps to the {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} license for instance, then it can be used anywhere on the project. — coelacan talk — 06:52, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

Cute though he may be in his user pic, Enzedbrit is obviously an hysteric and not worth getting offended by. If he is uncivil again, give him a warning. By the way, last time I checked, I was also a "decent" member of the LGBT community. Wanting an article properly categorized doesn't imply I embrace the principles espoused in the article. Hi, Parammon--I'm the editor who removed the Sprotect banner from Lesbian--I checked the list of protected pages first, however, and I explained to Thuglas why it's not a good idea for regular users to play with those particular banners. I appreciate your work on the article and the edit on the into. I think it needs a little more work, not to beat the word "stereotypical" to death. I will probably edit your edit but please don't take offense, only trying to better the article. And of course feel free to edit mine. How about this...

"Straight acting is a slang term used to describe a gay or bisexual man with the masculine appearance and mannerisms associated with the heterosexual ("straight") male stereotype. It is more rarely used to describe a lesbian with traditionally feminine appearance and mannerisms."

Thanks for your suggestions...I guess I solved one problem and created another. 8) It would indeed be nice not to use the word "stereotypically" too many times. I'm not sure "traditionally" is a good replacement, because the attributes associated with "masculine" and "feminine" have changed considerably over time. I used the word "usually" because otherwise there is an apparent contradiction with the rarer female or non-gender-specific usage...perhaps there's another way to say it. -- Beland 19:32, 3 March 2007 (UTC)
I think the second sentence qualifies the first enough with 'rarely' so that it does not make the intro contradictory but I'll work on it. I'll change the traditional baqck to sterotypical.--ParAmmon (cheers thanks a lot!) 04:09, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm beginning to think a version closer to the one at the merge but abbreviated, is better .

I just wanted to let you know that I have modified my initial suggestion to where Girl-girl should redirect: as "girl-girl" is a term used only to refer to a certain genre of pornography, Girl-girl should redirect to List of pornographic sub-genres#Lesbian pornography.
