Parthasarathy is one of the common names that people sport in India. It is most common in the area of Triplicane in Madras or Chennai where the famous temple of Sri Parthasarathy swami is situated. Most people in and around that area sport this name. This name is common among the South Indian Brahmins too. It refers to Lord Krishna who was the charioteer of Arjuna in the Mahabharatha war. Here the word 'Partha' indicates Arjuna and 'Sarathy' is the driver and hence Krishna is called the 'Charioteer of Arjuna'. The name, i've learnt from wiki is also familiar in West Bengal in India.

Though its a popular name i've had and met only one namesake in my educational career. This was also late, in my college when i found one in another department. Triplicane is also where i hail from and apart from people there and the one in college, i haven't found any parthasarathys.

With Orkut spreading at a rapid rate, i've found communities dedicated to people with the name 'Parthasarathy'. Interestingly, it was started by a guy who i think must be from Bengal given his profile, credentials and interests. I haven't met or know any parthasarathy from that group.
