Okay, I'm going to try to slim this infobox down to 250px wide. Will take a bit... THEPROMENADER 23:31, 10 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Rendering on Firefox
Great work - the template looks superb. However, it doesn't seem to render properly on Firefox - the whole Arrondissement line and the top of Quarter section are covered by the image. I think this will need to be sorted before widespread inclusion. - Gobeirne 09:09, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- I'm just trying to deal with this now - it has to do with a new version of the map I uploaded. The 'old' image has taken on the proportions of the 'new' one - but we still can't see the new version! I'll test and fix until it works. Trust me it's not a browser problem : ) THEPROMENADER 09:32, 11 May 2006 (UTC)
- PS: It seems that wiki is having some server problem - more than likely something to do with the 'slave' image server. Any page contining images is slow to load (or doesn't at all) - will confirm this on #Wiki. THEPROMENADER 09:36, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

- Mille pardons - it was in part a browser-based problem. I had put a temporary height on the map div during my 2am 'thinning' last night - and forgot to take it off when I was through. Firefox respects div heights no matter what's in them; most other browsers don't. The 'smooshed' map, on the other hand, was indeed a Wiki cache problem - that still isn't fixed! So I uploaded an entirely new plan - because of the thinner infobox, cut of its bois de Boulogne and bois de Vincennes - in a 'greener' shade that perhaps is more discreet than the 'yellowish' version. If you liked the old better, I can re-colour it that way - but in its present proportions, otherwise the arrondissement borders/text is too small. Just leave word here. [edit] links in the Caption
For the moment there is no feasable way to change a link's colour - at least not on a wide scale. The only way of doing this is for a user to add a new class to his monobook.css - but we can't very well ask every Wiki user to do this. So either we're going to have to change the caption background colour, or just not put links in the caption text. Speaking for me I'm still looking for a solution that can remain 'esthetically correct' with the rest - if anyone has any ideas, do give them a go. THEPROMENADER 12:45, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

- You could wrap the name of the street in simple code: <font color=#000000>{{{rue}}}</font> --Bob 16:18, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

- Gaaaaah! The evil w3-depreciated "font" tag. Tried it with the <span> and <div> tags instead - didn't work. I must experiment. Thanks for the pointer. THEPROMENADER 16:36, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

- Er, no. Close, though. Add any character or punctuation at all around a set of [[link]] brackets and the link will no longer remain the color indicated by the <font> tag surrounding the whole. "Paree" yes, "dd Paree bb", no. Dommage. THEPROMENADER 17:39, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

- Do we want the background in deep blue and all writing in white? --Bob 20:19, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
- Yes sir. By the way, I made a short addition to our favourite 'discussion page' that I hope sums up the situation up nicely. Please have a look. THEPROMENADER 20:23, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
- Each needs to be hardcoded into the individual pages, either that or we introduce numerous optional parameters. --Bob 20:29, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
- You wouldn't be thinking about "pre-formatting" Wiki code with optional parameters? It all depends on what's processed first. I would believe that the template parameters get processed before the wikicode... a form of pre-substitution. hmmmm. THEPROMENADER 20:50, 20 September 2006 (UTC)

I will attack it now, but I would like to know whether we can move XVIe arrondissement etc to XVIe arrondissement of Paris as articles on Lyon or Marseille may be created in the future and would prevent headaches later on. --Bob 22:25, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
- I've played with it: Place de l'Étoile What do you think about removing the Arrt. at the very top of the box and bold that part as well. I know that it goes against the format desired for the place sign, but in some instances there are too many arr. --Bob 23:53, 20 September 2006 (UTC)
- Well thought for Lyon arrondissements - and any other arrondissement in any other city/country for that matter. I'd just take note of the right form to use - for streets I used a comma (rue Mouffetard, Paris) but I'm sure the "of" would do just fine. Frankly I see the comma having more of a future here - but that's neither here nor there for now. Screw my indecision - as you like, up to you. THEPROMENADER 00:49, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
-
- I think the "Arrrrrr"'s are ok - there are not so many streets in Paris that cross more than four arrondissements. I'm sure it is possible to make the "arr" an option - how about that? Would be a pity to chop it entirely because of only a few streets. Too bad it's not possible to set up test conditions ( if ($arr > 4) { $disp_arr=''; } )... or can you? I find it frustrating to even look at Wiki code; it's so limited. THEPROMENADER 00:49, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Infobox Generator
Please let me know what/what when you are done updating the code - I will have a look as well - perhaps judging from the data available in my street database, I can determine what optional fields could be added. That done, I'd like also to update the "Wiki generator" available as an option there with the finished code. Did you know that I intended to develop this project in tandem with my website (as an 'information exchage)? I've been neglecting both because of my work - webmastering does not give much occasion to wander. THEPROMENADER 08:10, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] More what?
Hi Bob, I saw your "want more" comment - want more what? I'm sure there's lots of Paris street articles the template could be added to. I'll have a look, and I should be creating more - I actually have a few street articles that I've developed for my site, but I have yet to move them to Wiki. I'll have much more time once the bicker-fest ends. Cheers. THEPROMENADER 19:26, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

- I was meaning more space in the right hand column. For a while it bunched everything over once I introduced the optional quartier linking parameter. All linked articles have now been updated, and I am finished. On the issue of naming the arr. I would think that X arr., Paris would be best. If the pages are moved, and I think it's the best idea, then the links in this template have to be rewritten to accomodate the move as well. --Bob 20:40, 21 September 2006 (UTC)

- Yes, this best be done before. You know though that a redirect will still link things through - as long as there is no double-redirect. THEPROMENADER 21:18, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
