Talk:Parliament (cigarette)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Is it necessary to have the link to the list of additives in cigarettes in the see also section? It implies a bias, and though it's relevant to the tobacco page or cigarette page, it doesn't contribute anything relevant to a page on a specific brand of cigarettes. Cherokee40 23:42, 17 October 2007 (UTC)Does anyone know the advantage of the recessed filter on p-funks?

Parliaments' unique filter recesses are notoriously used for snorting cocaine. One recess fits approximately half a line.

[edit] The Recessed Filter

The purpose of the recessed filter is to keep you from getting the end of the ciggerete on your teeth. The idea behind this is to keep your teeth from getting niccotine stains.

That sounds like a good explanation...but do you have a source for it? Postdlf 04:31, 17 August 2006 (UTC)

I have heard this originated from the need tor machinegunners to smoke while at their post, and they must bite the ciggarette in their teeth.

One great thing would have to be when your stoned, the filter is the best for feelin like a hard cock between your fingers!

unsane24's tip of the day:

One great benefit of the recessed filter is when you are on your last cigarette and, after one too many drinks or just bad luck, you flick too hard ashing and break it. Bummer, eh? But no........ Just tear the unsmoked portion off at the end of the filter, twist the unburnt end and insert into the recess on the filter, and smoke away. Voila, you can enjoy the rest of your smoke!

Also, with Parliaments the filter is less likely to break, because the recessed filter is reinforced.

mtskv5's tip: P-Funks are good for all of those cocaine users out there as well.

Unless or until someone actually comes up with a reliable source, I will continue to remove any references to using the recessed filter to snort cocaine that get added to the article. siafu 16:08, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

How are you going to find a reliable source for this? ive seen it many times myself and most parliament smokers know about this, do you smoke parliaments? Cherokee40 17:20, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

I was, once upon a time, a pack-a-day smoker of Parliaments and have heard this rumor many times, but I have yet to meet someone who even claimed to have actually used a recessed filter for snorting cocaine. As a result, I see this in the same vein as all the absurd sex practices that get discussed and joked about but never in fact practiced.
Even that aside, it wouldn't be enough to personally know it's possible or true from experience, or to know someone who can vouch for that as neither satisfies WP:V. So we need a reliable source; absent of one, this should be simply omitted, true or not, as wikipedia is not a rumor mill. siafu 20:44, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
Addendum: It occurs to me that a reliable source discussing the rumor as a rumor would be enough to merit some sort of inclusion. I don't know of any such source, though. siafu 20:45, 17 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Added Template:unsourced to recessed filter section

As a lifelong Parliament smoker, I wish I didn't have to do that... but the recessed filter theories really need sources, and I can't find any. :( All I know is that I love them; they've totally spoiled me for other cigarettes. Doc Sigma (wait, what?) 13:57, 5 January 2007 (UTC)

Citation added. If you do a search in the article for "Parliament" you will come across the following lines: "In the same year, 1970, Parliament cigarettes of Philip Morris, Inc (80, 85, and 100 mm length) were tested. The Parliament cigarette was unique in that it had a 5 mm recessed charcoal filter. The novel filter was designed to prevent the tongue from touching the filter face. However, tests revealed that the filter of Parliament cigarettes released carbon particles that ranged in size from 5–120 µm." --Old american century 04:23, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:PARLIAMENT.jpg

Image:PARLIAMENT.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Coke cig

I removed this line from the first paragraph: This has earned them the the title of a "coke cigarette".[citation needed] Thats a pretty big claim, especially since I know lots of people that smoke P-lights and none of them blow coke with it, so this claim shouldn't be so prominent.
