Note by RBB: Before adding the note on Paragould's name, I searched Wikipedia for "paragould"; the only entry returned was Paragould, Arkansas. This confirms other stories I had heard that no other city in the world was named Paragould.

Another noteworthy Paragould native is country-folk singer Iris DeMent, although she left there when she was a very young child.
