[edit] Mission
According to the Partners' 1999 Annual Report, Partnerships for Capacity Building, their mission is to, "help implement the Cairo Program of Action by quickly expanding and improving South-to-South collaboration in the fields of family planning and reproductive health."[2]
The Strategic Plan 2005-2014 states that their, "mission is to assist each other and other developing countries to address successfully the sexual and reproductive health and rights, including family planning and HIV/AIDS, population and development challenges through South-South collaboration by raising a common voice and sharing sustainable, effective, efficient, accessible and acceptable solutions considering the diverse economic, social, political, religious and cultural characteristics of our countries." The Partners also take an advocacy role to promote south-south collaboration.[3]
This mandate was established in the International Conference on Population and Development Programme for Development. The Conference occurred in Cairo, Egypt in September, 1994. The Programme deals mainly with the following topics: education, migration, infant mortality and sexual health services in 'developing' countries.[4]
