Partita for Violin No. 3 (Bach)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Partita No. 3 in E major BWV 1006 by Johann Sebastian Bach for solo violin consists of the following movements:
- Preludio
- Loure
- Gavotte en Rondeau
- Menuet I
- Menuet II
- Bourrée
- Giga
It takes approximately 20 minutes to be performed.
The most commonly found recordings are usually of the Preludio. The Preludio demands advanced bowings technique, carries a quick tempo marking ("allegro") and consists almost entirely of semiquavers. The Preludio was also transcribed by Bach for solo organ, oboes, trumpets and strings in the opening sinfonia of Cantata BWV 29 in D major.
The "Gavotte en Rondeau" is famous and often heard in TV or radio programs.
