Parnassia palustris |
Parnassia palustris is a species of the genus Parnassia.
It is the county flower of Cumberland and Sutherland in the United Kingdom.
This flower has the distinction of appearing on the county arms of Cumbria. The name is inherited from ancient Greece. Evidently the cattle on Mount Parnassus appreciated the plant; hence it was an ‘honorary grass'.
