[edit] History
During the early 1970s, Gwinnett County lead the country in growth. This phenomenal growth rate produced overcrowding in the school system, leaving South Gwinnett High School and Berkmar High School too crowded to accommodate students. In 1975, construction began on a new school. With a clear view of Stone Mountain Park, the school assumed the name of Parkview. Today, the once uninterrupted view has been obscured by new neighborhoods, businesses, and trees. The students chose a panther to be their school mascot, and also chose orange and white to be their school's colors. The doors opened in 1976 with Principal Bartow Jenkins at the helm.
The school expanded, both physically as well as in number of students, until it was filled above capacity in the early to mid-1990s. In 2007, Parkview took over the then adjacent Trickum Middle School in order to create more space for it's rapidly expanding population. The old Trickum Middle School building is called "The 9th Grade Academy," and many Freshmen classes have moved to it. In moving classes to the new building, the school eliminated all of the nearly 70 trailers which had been scattered around the school for the past decade.
