Park Hill South High School is one of two high schools in the accredited with distinction Park Hill School District. It was opened in 1998 to supplement the growing enrollment in the district, as the original high school - Park Hill High School - could no longer handle the entire population of high school students.

[edit] History
Park Hill South High School opened its doors in 1998 after splitting the district in half with Park Hill High School. Its first year, no seniors were enrolled because the entire class of 1999 was allowed to remain at Park Hill and graduate together. Because of this, the athletic teams competed at a lower division (due to less enrollment) in their first two years.
[edit] Block Scheduling
Park Hill South runs on a block schedule. For the first semester, students attend four classes a day for an hour and a half. After they come back from holiday break in January, they are assigned four new classes. Sometimes, split blocks are used for Orchestra, Band, Choir, and other classes so a student can attend them all year. They are alternating classes first block or third block. A student may attend Choir on a "Purple" day and American History on a "black" day. Because they alternate, a student takes these two classes all year.
[edit] Programs and information
Park Hill South actively participates in the A+ program, which provides scholarships to dedicated students to many of Missouri's two and four year colleges and universities. There also exists a Freshman Mentoring Program. Through this, juniors and seniors have the opportunity to facilitate activities with freshmen occasionally. Park Hill South has also recently started a Schools for Schools club, a US-wide club from Invisible Children Inc. They will be raising money to build schools for the children of Northern Uganda.[1]
[edit] Competitive Academic Programs
Park Hill South has maintained a debate program for nearly a decade and regularly competes in Kansas City-area tournaments. Additionally, an academic bowl team competes on behalf of the school in local meets.
