The group Parish was formed in Tampa, Florida in 1992 by drummer Dana Burnell and guitarist Ben Jackson of Crimson Glory fame. They began writing songs with friend and local guitarist, David Edward, and a nationwide search for a vocalist led the trio to Rhode Island's John David. Writing continued and recording began. However, the band still did not have a bassist, so it was decided that since Jackson and Burnell had written and rehearsed the parts together, that Jackson would track the bass parts. With four songs recorded, the band was eager to prove itself to the industry and fans. They added bassist Mike Luther and the line-up was complete. A short tour around Florida was embarked upon and after several sold out shows and great reviews, including warming up fellow Florida band and internationally known Atlantic Records recording artists Savatage, they felt the need to get back into the studio and record an album. It was at this time, choosing to spend more time with his young family, that Burnell retired.

In 1995, Jackson and Edward found a replacement in another rocker from Rhode Island, Rich Tabor, and the band recorded their one and only album entitled "Envision". While Jackson would finish the album, he decided against touring. He felt that Parish was the vision of himself and Burnell, and without Burnell in the line-up, he decided to end the band. He eventually rejoined his former band, Crimson Glory, in 1999 (along with Burnell, who would rejoin them in 2005) and also went on to start a solo project, the Ben Jackson Group, in 2001.
