[edit] History

In an effort to relaunch pro-football in the city of Paris, Paris FC was founded in 1969. The objective of the club was to be playing first division football by 1970. An attempted merger with CS Sedan was refused so Paris went looking in the second division and finally merged with Stade St. Germain to create Paris Saint-Germain Football Club. Paris FC, as we know it today, came into being in 1972 when it split from Stade St. Germain, after coming under pressure from the Mayor’s office which refused to support a non-Paris team. Finally after the bitter split, Paris FC and PSG were created with Paris FC keeping their first division status and all the professional players while PSG were relegated to the third division with all the amateur players. So at the beginning of the 72/73 season Paris FC was a first division side playing at the new Parc des Princes while PSG was an amateur side playing third division football. The ultimate irony was PSG’s promotion to the first division in 1973/74 which coincided with Paris FC’s relegation from the same division. Paris FC made it back to the top-flight in 1978 after being Division 2 runners-up. The 78/79 season was a difficult one which finished with Paris’ relegation after finishing 19th. Paris finished 7th in 1979/80 and reached the semi-finals of the French cup, beating Belfort 2-1 in the 1st Round, Stade Quimperois (2-1 A) (2-0 H) in the 2nd Round, Rennes in the 3rd Round having lost the first leg 2-0 but coming back to stylishly win the return 4-0, a 1-1 home draw was followed by a 2-0 win at AJ Auxerre. The semi-final first leg was at fellow division two side US Orléans and finished 3-1 to the home side, the return match finishing 2-1 to Paris FC. In 1983 Paris FC managed to finish 4th but missed out on promotion. Paris FC, again due to a split, was relegated to division four in the summer of 1983. Relegation to division five quickly followed where the club spent four seasons before finally getting back into division four by finishing champions in 1988. The winning continued and another championship was Paris’ by the end of 1988/89. Between 1989 and 2000, only in 1992 did Paris FC threaten to make it back into the second division. Unfortunately, the club suffered relegation in 2000 finishing 17th. Since then, the club has found it difficult to get out of division four where only the champions are promoted. Paris had the honour of doing the double over the champions Vannes OC 2-0 and 1-0 this season. In 2006, Paris FC finally managed to vacate division four in the right direction, by winning the Championnat de France Amateurs Group D. Thus achieving promotion into the Championnat National (division three). Paris FC are now just one promotion away from appearing in Ligue 2, for the first time in 23 years.

In the 2007-08 season, Paris FC humbled Toulouse FC 2-1 at the Stadium Municipal, the biggest shock of the tournament that season.
