Parasol Foundation
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Parasol Community Foundation is a philanthropic nonprofit organization that assists community members interested in donating to charitable groups in the North Lake Tahoe region. It is separate from, but closely associated with, the Parasol Community Collaboration. The Foundation supports the PCC by managing the D.W. Reynolds Community Non-profit Center, issuing grants to PCC member agencies, providing fiscal management and other support services.

[edit] The Parasol Community Collaboration
THe PCC is a network of over 50 non-profit and public service agencies working together to protect the natural environment and enhance the quality of life for those who live and work in the Incline Village-Crystal Bay, Nevada and Kings Beach, California areas. Many of these agencies also service other communities in the Lake Tahoe and Truckee region. The PCC was established in the belief that community needs are met more effectively through coordinated collaboration by agencies rather than by individuals and groups acting independently.
[edit] History
Due to its rural nature, the North Lake Tahoe region, especially Incline Village and Crystal bay, does not receive basic services that county agencies might normally provide. Non-profit organizations thus found it necessary to take responsibility to make sure that the community's essential needs were met. The Parasol Foundation was created in 1996 to ensure that such efforts would be successful by allowing the individual agencies and charities to work together- allowing them to combine resources and avoid working to cross-purposes. In 1999, the foundation received a construction grant from the Donald W. Reynolds foundation to build a non-profit foundation center. This building was completed and dedicated in 2002, and the PCC and PCF have since relocated to it, along with seven of its partner agencies.
