When the San Francisco peace conference was held, Korean Ambassador Yu Chan Yang (梁裕燦, 량유찬) requested of the U.S. Secretary of State that the island be included in the abandoned territory of Japan.[1] When asked about where Parangdo and Liancourt Rocks were located, the First Secretary of the Korean embassy Pyo Wook Han replied that they were located in the Sea of Japan (East Sea) near Ulleungdo. South Korea later withdrew the claim.[2] Possibly, Argonaut Island claimed by James Colnett in 1789.[citation needed]
