Paramount Theatre (Cedar Rapids, Iowa)

The Paramount Theatre in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, opened September 1, 1928, as the Capital Theater, but was renamed in 1929 when it was purchased by Paramount Pictures. In 1974 it was sold to the City of Cedar Rapids and was completely renovated. It is home to the Cedar Rapids Symphony Orchestra, the Cedar Rapids Area Theatre Organ Society, and Community Concerts. It is famous for its Mighty Wurlitzer theater organ. The Paramount is included in the National Register of Historic Places.
The Paramount Theatre is a 6-story brick building located in downtown Cedar Rapids, Iowa. The theater has become a restored example of a 1920's movie/vaudeville palace. The main floor of the theater seats 1126 and the balconey seats 787. In the theater there is an autographed book of all the famous performers, the book is always kept in the theater. The Wurlitzer Theatre Organ that is mentioned in the paragraph above, when being used rises up from below the stage level.
