The Paragons are one of the teams of mutants in the comic book series New X-Men: Academy X, in the Marvel Universe. They are students of the Xavier Institute and are instructed by members of the X-Men. The squad's colors are green, pink, and black.[issue # needed]
All teams of the Xavier Institute disbanded after M-Day and have been formed into one group.
[edit] Advisors
The Paragons were formerly advised by original New Mutants member, Wolfsbane. Wolfsbane was involved in a scandal when her romantic relationship with an older student, Elixir was brought to light, forcing her to leave. The squad was assigned a new advisor, Magma.
[edit] Members
The members of the Paragons were:
- Match (Ben Hammil), Ben is the leader of The Paragons. Hammil's mutat ability is pyrokinesis, enabling him to produce and manipulate flame. As a side effect, his head is always a-flame with low temperature fire. In addition, he is seemingly immune to fire and high temperatures. Match was one of the 27 students at the institute to retain his powers after M-Day.
- Trance (Hope Abbott), Hope has an astral projection power, the scope of which has not yet been fully displayed. It is unusual in that whilst most astral projectors are harmless, Hope's power somehow causes energy damage, though the extent is not known. Trance was one of the 27 students at the institute to retain her powers after M-Day.
- Wolf Cub (Nicholas Gleason), Gleason possesses a permanent werewolf-like form that imbues him with enhanced strength, endurance, speed, senses, and agility. Additionally, Gleason possesses razor-sharp claws. Wolf Cub was one of the 27 students at the institute to retain his powers after M-Day.
- Pixie (Megan Gwynn), Gwynn possesses rainbow-colored butterfly wings that allow her to fly. In addition, she produces a "pixie dust" that causes hallucinations. Pixie was one of the 27 students at the institute to retain her powers after M-Day.
- DJ (Mark Sheppard), Prior to his depowering by the Decimation of mutants, DJ could gain different powers by listening to different types of music. His abilities were never fully explored, and never shown at all. He died on the bus that was attacked by Stryker in New X-men #23.
- Preview (Jessica Vale), Preview had the ability of short-term precognition, usually minutes in advance. She was depowered after M-Day, but was not aboard the bus the other depowered students were on that was destroyed by Stryker, while her sister Sarah was.
[edit] Decimation
After House of M, Wanda Maximoff depowered 90% of the mutant population. The Xavier Institute was affected a great deal, losing many of the students and some X-Men. The Paragons were affected also; DJ and Preview lost their powers while Match, Trance, Wolf Cub and Pixie kept theirs, as did Magma. DJ was unfortunely killed in the bus attack from William Stryker. Preview, for some reason, was not on the bus, even though her sister Sarah was.
