INSTILLING A PASSION FOR LIFE-LONG LEARNING

PHILOSOPHY: The faculty and staff of Paradise Valley High School believe that their school is the heart of the changing, diverse, community. Teaching and learning is the heart of their school’s philosophical approach to education. PVHS' mission is to instill among their students a passion for life-long learning. Their students must first think well, and then be able to articulate those thoughts both in writing and speaking. Their relevant and diverse curricula is geared to support this premise. In order to contribute significantly to their community, their students must strive to broaden their perspective, understand one another, and harmoniously enrich each other’s lives.

STRUCTURE: PVHS is on a 4 X 4 Block Schedule with 85 minute classes. Teachers instruct six classes a year, stay current on teaching strategies, and use varied instructional approaches during their 85 minute class.

1. To celebrate, explore and share the diverse culture of this community.
2. To instill a strong foundation for further education in both the vocational and academic arenas.
3. To foster and maintain a commitment to excellence at every level of learning.
4. To promote civic respect, pride and responsibility.
5. To promote the importance of personal respect and integrity, positive relationships, and filling one’s potential.
6. To encourage active participation in activities that strengthen the mind, body and sense of self.
7. To provide experiences that stimulate one’s adaptation to the rapid advancements in our technologically based society.
8. To ensure that students see relevance in their learning through lesson applications and interdisciplinary instruction.
9. To foster cooperation among students through cooperative learning and among staff, parents and community through the site council leadership.
