Paracommando Brigade (Belgium)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Paracommando Brigade (Dutch/French: Brigade Paracommando) was an elite fighting force in the Belgian Land Component, consisting of three Paracommando battalions plus supporting units (artillery, anti-aircraft artillery, logistics, engineering and intelligence). The brigade was disbanded in 2003 and replaced with the new Immediate Reaction Cell which now harbours all paracommando personnel. It has its headquarters in Heverlee. The three combat battalions are located as follows:
- 1PARA in Diest
- 2COMMANDO in Flawinne
- 3PARA in Tielen
Although the battalions have different names, all the troops receive the same training and perform the same duties. It is merely a case of tradition which causes the three battalions to have different names, berets and beret unit insignia. Battalion traditions and colours differ also.
