PAREF Woodrose School, also known simply as Woodrose, is a private school for girls in Ayala Alabang, Muntinlupa City, Metro Manila, Philippines. It is not owned or under Opus Dei, despite belief, but the founders of PAREF were Opus Dei members. It is accredited by the Philippine Department of Education. It is composed of an elementary school and a high school. Its executive director is Delia Udani.

Woodrose School is the very first school established by PAREF, a non-stock, non-profit organization of parents who want to be fully involved in providing their children a Christian education. It started operations at a large, two-story house located at the corner of 10th and Gilmore Streets in New Manila, Quezon City in June of 1977 with 76 students ranging from Grades 1 to 5. A higher level was added each school year until the first senior class in high school graduated in 1984.

In 1981, the school transferred to its present permanent location in Ayala Alabang, Muntinlupa City, following the donation to PAREF of a two-hectare lot from Don Jaime Zobel de Ayala. Now on its 30th year of operation, Woodrose enrolls 1,000 students from Grade One to Fourth Year High School in the red brick buildings and lush green lawns of its campus.

Over the years, Woodrose has gained recognition as one of the best private schools for girls in the country. It has garnered numerous awards in inter-school competitions for oration, debate, writing, art, music and sports. Many alumnae have shown academic prominence as well as competence in their chosen professions. Moreover, they have exercised concern for the social and moral welfare of various sectors in society through outreach activities and other socially oriented projects.

Woodrose School is recognized and approved by the Department of Education (DepEd). In 2002, the school was named a Center of Excellence in Sports and the Arts by the City Government of Muntinlupa. In May 2006, Woodrose obtained its full accreditation status from the Philippine Accrediting Association of Schools, Colleges and Universities (PAASCU).

The academic program is geared towards "imparting a broad humanistic and cultural formation and encouraging the practice of human virtues towards the development of personal maturity, leading each person to achieve perfection in her work according to her ability." (PAREF Statement of Principles)

Thus there is an emphasis on the liberal arts, without neglecting the sciences, sports and other student interests.


Woodrose is known for its competitive academic environment and social conservatism (prospective students must present their parents' marriage certificate in order to gain admission). Students and alumni have been recipients of Zonta International awards, Alaska Cup soccer competitions, Metro Manila Debate Awards, and National Speaking and Debate awards, among others.

Woodrose's curriculum focuses on the intellectual and spiritual development of the school's students. It is centered on four core values: respect, responsibility, concern for others and love for the world and God.

Woodrose has games every year called Intrams. There are four teams: Red, Green, Gold and Blue. Some of the games played are Kickball, Tug of War and the Intrams also have many relays.

[edit] Tutorial System

The tutorial system is the school's strongest instrument for personal formation wherein the goals of wisdom and virtue are personalized. A tutor who is a member of the school staff is assigned to each student (tutee). A personal relationship, based on trust and confidence, is forged between the tutor and the tutee through periodic conversations. The tutor's task is to take a direct and personal interest in each child's development. The principal area of education, which the tutorial system addresses, is the student's character. Everything else, including academic results, flows from this.

The tutorial system is the main channel for home-school collaboration. Parents meet with their daughter's tutor several times a year to work together towards the child's total development and assure greater harmony between the home and the school.

The Guidance Center provides SPED, counseling, and comprehensive testing programs that may be needed to support the Tutorial System.

[edit] Outreach Program

The Woodrose Outreach Program is a concrete way of practicing one of the core values of Woodrose: Concern for Others. Social and moral awareness, sensitivity to the needs of others, and service to society are integrated in the Woodrose curriculum to inculcate Christian ideals in the students.

The Outreach Program is offered to Grades 1 to Year IV students. The activities of each level are developmentally appropriate thereby affording the opportunity for in-depth processing/study, repeated practice, and habit formation.

In the Primary School, the program aims to introduce the students to the possibility of interacting with the less fortunate and thus foster in them a certain degree of love for the poor at a young age, recognizing at the same time that others may experience situations differently from themselves. The same rationale is considered by the outreach component of the Primary School Clubs.

In the Intermediate School, the program aims to cultivate in the students greater sensitivity towards the needs of others, especially the marginalized. It also seeks to involve the students to gradually solve real life problems such as illiteracy through academic tutorials or Reading Literacy Program.

The Outreach Program in the High School is more incisive and intense, considering the developmental traits of the students in this level. The program aims to inculcate in the students civic responsibility by providing them opportunities to deal and interact with the different groups of people who have several needs e.g. shelter, care, education. The students are also encouraged to participate voluntarily in socio-civic organizations that can be found in their own communities, thus enabling them to be real assets to society.

Finally, the Outreach Program also includes the annual medical-dental mission organized by Woodrose alumnae for a poor community in dire need of free medical consultations, dental services, and medicines. This activity aims to give the alumnae an opportunity to continue their efforts to reach out to the less fortunate.
