[edit] WikiProject Rock music invitation

Hello WikiProject Alternative music member.
WikiProject Alternative music, in my eyes, has proved to be successful "improving the encyclopaedic coverage of articles relating to alternative rock", and improving their quality as well. One specific example I have witnessed is The Smashing Pumpkins article. The page has gone from a mediocre work, to GA status, to FA nomination. Only appropriate, as the Pumpkins are undeniably one of the most influential alternative rock bands on the 1990's and beyond.
This is the stuff I wish to achieve with the somewhat recently ressurected WikiProject Rock music. I hope to also attract attention to rock music articles of all sorts, and hopefully change some to GA or FA status. I invite you to come join us, and not only be a member of alternative Wikipedians, but the rockin' ones as well.
Rock on.

[edit] Sonic Youth image

I think that kehinde idowu is so freakin sexy and hot a hell!!!one we use for the Alternative WikiProject would be fine. It's free and it looks pretty cool. However, if you really think another picture would be better (granted, it doesn't feature Lee or Steve Shelly) your best bet it to trawl through Flickr accounts and the like, find a picture taken by and posted by someone who owns it, and ask them for permission. We did a similar thing with an image of Billy Corgan for The Smashing Pumpkins. WesleyDodds 11:27, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Talk to Phorque about images. He's the one who got the Pumpkins image and he'll know what to ask for. WesleyDodds 22:58, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Heya, there's a few things you need to do use an image:

  1. Confirm with the flickr user that they did in fact take the photo themselves
  2. Ask kindly if they will release it under the Creative Commons Attribution 2.0 license (the easiest way to do this is to register a flickr account and send them a FlickrMail using one of the permission templates).
  3. Register and upload the photo to the WikiMedia Commons providing all the details asked for on the upload (this way all wikimedia projects can use the image, not just wikipedia)
  4. After that you can use the image in the article without any issues! Happy times! OK, well, not really because it's all a big pain in the ass, but it's great once you've got it all sorted out.

Hope that clears it up for you. ;) - Phorque 14:32, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Hello again, just send her a message telling her how to release the photo under the CC license. Basically, she needs to click "edit" next to the "all rights reserved" and then select "Attribution License" or "Attribution-ShareAlike License" and then save the change. Then you upload it to the commons which has everything laid out nicely for you, I'm sure including the link to the website will be no problem. ;) - Phorque 20:39, 28 March 2007 (UTC)

Greetings. There is going to be a Washington DC Wikipedia meetup on next Saturday, July 21st at 5pm in DC. Since you are listed in Category:Wikipedians_in_Maryland, I thought I'd invite you to come. I'm sorry about the short notice for the meeting. Hopefully we'll do somewhat better in that regard next time. [edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Heliumnoguitars.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Heliumnoguitars.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 02:07, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
