Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did in Audemars Piguet. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. - This message is for Wrs1864. I would like to have a chance to explain the misunderstanding. I appreciate and recognize you efforts and concerns to keep Wikipedia a reliable source of information. I do share the same beliefs and I was trying to enrich the source of information the end-user is looking for. There was no advertising intentions in my activity unless you consider advertising the share of knowledge. I would like to have a chance to explain myself and therefore look forward to your reply or until somebody will explain me how to interact with you. Thank you for your time, --Panmas 14:58, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
- Hi. As mentioned in the stock-response above, please read the WP:EL article. It explains the policies in more detail. Also, WP:NOT is a good article, in particular, Wikipedia is not a directory. It isn't just your intent, nor is it even a matter of whether the external link is commercial or not. External links should only be used in order to support the article (give references), or to add information that could not reasonably added to the article. Wikipedia is an encyclopedia, not a search engine or web directory. I have added the "welcome" stock template also, as it points out other places to help, so you can get a broader response than just from me. I will continue to monitor your talk page and try to answer questions that you have. Wrs1864 15:31, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
Thank you for your prompt reply. At least I feel there is somebody to share my thoughts. As you said, the external links need to support the article. As a matter of fact, that's what i was trying to do. In particular with Swiss Made, the content can be found in the fhs.ch/en/swissm.htm but also in the www.swissmadewatches.net website under History. The problem of swissmadewatches website is its structure, so you cannot actually give the direct link to the article, but it's there. The same goes with all the other links I added. Please le me know what you think. I can complete and enrich a lot of watch-related content in Wikipedia, but then I get flagged like it happened for Swiss Made. Instead of a credit for my contribution, I get a big red flag and a warning. Please let me know your in-depth thoughts at this regard. --Panmas 15:55, 15 January 2007 (UTC)Panmas
- You can't copy other people's websites without violating copyrights, unless you have permission. I don't know if swissmadewatches violated the FHS's copyrights or if they obtained permission, but for wikipedia, the permission needs to be documented. As far as not being able to link to swissmadewatches, yeah, it looks like they way they designed their website, they don't want people linking to them. That's too bad, but not much we can do about it. For contributions to Wikipedia, please write original text and cite your sources. There are lots and lots of books and such on watchmaking and it shouldn't be too hard to write stuff up, or at least I didn't find it too hard for the watch-related stuff I did. Yes, it is harder than just copying stuff, but if we can't obtain permission, there isn't much choice. Wrs1864 00:42, 17 January 2007 (UTC)

This is your last warning. The next time you insert blatant advertising into articles, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Persistent advertisers may have their websites blacklisted from Wikipedia. Wrs1864 14:22, 15 January 2007 (UTC)
