Panchobh is a smart village in the Darbhanga district of Bihar. Panchobh is counted as not only one of the renowned village of Darbhanga district but also this famous for all population here is of only BrahminMithila.However in Panchobh panchayat several other castes are also belongs.It is located at least 6 kilometers west from Laheriasarai/Darbhanga (District headquarters).Panchobh is very near to its district head quarter Darbhanga.Panchobh is located on bank of NIMA river in Darbhanga.This village is one of the most developed Village of Darbhanga district.You can count this as a "Adarsh gram".But since last some couple of years floods hit and damage this locality very heavily in the month of July/August. Still this village runs and rocks.Agriculture is main occupation of the villager.However lots of serviceman are also in this village.Around 15-20 peoples of this panchobh works in Lalit Narayan Mithila University.There are many peoples of this village living abroad like in USA,Canada.The literacy percentage of this village is very high.The main reason behind this literacy that there is a own High School, Middle School for Panchobh.As Panchobh located near to Darbhanga town so peoples of this village have many advantage like education,marketing,transportation etc.Darbhanga/Laheriasarai is main business hub of the area where people from remote area come to marketing. You can easily find lots of people of this village near Laheriasarai Tower in Darbhanga.Upto some extent you can say that Panchobh rules everywhere in the city Darbhanga/Laheriasarai.

She is my Grand Mother), our family belongs from the same root.Before this her younger son Sri Rajiv Choudhary(Babbu Ji)was the Mukhiya of Panchobh. He is very dynamic person. Previously he was involve in student politics. During his time period Panchobh made nice development in his infrastructure.Still his approach in here is effective.

  • It is very easy to reach Panchobh.Panchobh is very near to Laheriasarai.

For this you have to come at HAZMA CHOWK. From there are lots of Rickshaw,Tempo or Tanga available for trip to Panchobh.You can catch any one as per your convenience.It will take 45 minute to 1 hour from Hazma Chowk to reach to Panchobh.

Mithila Maithil and Maithili.
The Maithili is widely spoken language in the Mithila region (Darbhanga, Madhubani, Samastipur, Sitamarhi, Saharsa, Begusarai, Muzaffarpur and Purnia district) in Bihar. There is lot of culture associated with this region.Songs like Bhagvati Song, Batgavni, Sohar......Dance like Jaat-jatin, jhumar....Festival like Chauthchandra, Ghari puja, Joor Sital...e.t.c

The meaning of the song:Baat Taakna means...To Wait. One married girl waiting for her husband in the dark night but her husband love moon light. He always come in moon light to meet her.............This song is based upon the sweet culture of the Mithila.

All most all people in Panchobh are Brahmin by caste.However in Panchobh panchayat where there is other caste also. But inside Panchobh village all citizens are Brahmin only. One significant thing about this village is that Panchobh is among those few village of Darbhanga district where all population in this particular village is all Brahmin.They are very gentle and known for their hospitality. Beside them it has other cast like Yadav, Dhanuk, Badhay(carpenter),Khatvay, Muslim, Nai, Dhobi, Kumhar .

In Panchobh the hole village is divided on basis of GHRAYANA.There are four GHRAYANA here in Panchobh. Namely Sarkari ghrayana, Choudhary ghrayana, Ravana ghrayana and Khakharii ghrayana. All are BRAHMINS here. They are divided since very ancient time. Among all Sarkari Ghrayana is the largest one.

The name of the village comes from our ansester Late Panchu Baba. Panchu baba was the ancestor of the village who came here many years ago.For sake of his regards one Brahma Shthan is in this village.

1.MakarsankrantiTila Sankaraint: It comes every year on 14 or 15 January. On the eve of this festival people of the village take holy bath in the pond in the winter morning. After that they ignite fire to warms their body.child enjoy taking special breakfast during warming his body. The morning breakfast on the day of Makarsankrati include sweets made by parched rice, flattend rice, tilkut, sugarcane, dahi (curd) e.t.c. The women performs puja in home and distributes prasaad among children & other members of family. Khichri is very important dish on this day.

2.Holi: On the eve of the festival people enjoy with different colour and gulal. The way of playing Holi in the village is somewhat different from its neighbouring area. Villagers first play Holi only with colour during 8A.M to 1P.M. After that they play only gulal till evening 8 p.m .Villagers handsack with each other and takes blessings from the elders during gulal spray.


3.Joor Sital :The festival always falls on April 14 just after Amavasaya of Chaitra month and marks the beginning of the new year. The Amavasaya of Chaitra month is the last day of Hindu year and on the next day begins the new year according to Hindu calendar. The festival is known as with various name in different parts of India. Vaisakhi in North India. Vishu in Kerala. People of mithila region know this festival as Joor Sital.Villagers of the Mithila region celebrates the festival in different way. On the day of the Joor Sital every elder guys get up early morning in each family. They give bless to every younger one. The way of blessing is that they take water(Jal) in bended palm(Htheli) and put their palm on the head of younger one at least three or five times continuously. People performs puja at home and mango garden. They offer Baasi (cooked food in night) Vari and Rice to god. Every child and young guys pour water on the dryland. They irrigate almost all plants, tree in their own garden.


5.Durga Pooja: Durga Pooja festival has being celebrated in Panchobh since last 25 years. This festival is the one which is celebrated here in most marvelous manner. As Durga pooja is 10 days festival so peoples enjoys here a lot. Peoples come to see this pooja from around 10 to 15 villages here in Panchobh. This Pooja celebrated in superb ways.


5.Chhath:The festival of the chhat falls on sixth day of the Hindu month of kartik (late October or mid Novenber) in the Hindu lunar calendar every year. The chhath falls on the month of Kartik is known as Dala Chhath.Another types of chhath is Chaiti chhath which falls on the month of Chaitra (late April or mid May).The Dala Chhath is one of the holiest festivals for Biharis. The way of celebrating Chhath in the village Panchobh is almost same to celebrating Chhath in through the Bihar. There is lot of songs dedicated to the Chhath festival.
