[edit] Homeland vs Nation bis / absence of verb

I put back the word "homeland" in place of "nation" because the traduction of patrie is homeland and the traduction of nation is ... nation. It is true that the term "patrie" is much more politicaly oriented in french than homeland is in english (but that is true for all the words of the dictionnary, lol). "Nation" is for sure a political term, a word that puts together the notions of "people", "country" and "state". Maybe the more-close traduction would be "motherland" ("mère-patrie") as after all "patria" comes from "pater" (father): patrie=la terre de nos pères, the land of our fathers. Well anyway, the advice of a real translator would be nice !!

I added a comment and put the word "is" off in the previous translation "To great men the homeland/nation/whatever is gratefull" because this translates in french as "Aux grands hommes la patrie EST reconnaissante", which change the meaning. The absence of verb meaning exactly that "homeland" should NOT be considered as a subject in the sentence ! Precisely because France don't want to claim to make an honnor to its great men by burrying them here, but at the contrary wants to aknowledge the honnor it received from them. - pyc 17:24, 07 April 2007 GMT+1

[edit] Initial article necessary?

Is the initial article a necessary part of the name, or would this article better live under Panthéon? AxelBoldt 13:20, 8 Apr 2004 (UTC)

[edit] "Homeland" vs. "nation"

I changed the translation of "patrie" from "homeland" to "nation." Even though patrie etymologically means "homeland" it is meant in a more emphatic, er, nationalist sense which would indicate "nation" as a better translation. LeoDV 15:51, 9 Dec 2004 (UTC)

[edit] É or E???

I've personally seen Panthéon spelt like this: Pantheon. Are both right, or am I just missing out on the accent? Justintime516 21:45, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

"Pantheon" without the acute is the general English term, and applies to various similar monuments. The French spelling is specific to this case. D. J. Cartwright 00:43, 3 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Jean Jacques Rousseau is not listed among people buried there

I am curious who edited this article in a way that Jean Jacques Rousseau's name disappeared from the list...shame on you!!! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 12.111.71.153 (talk) 00:38, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Toussaint Louverture

The parallel French article states that there is only a memorial plaque for Toussaint Louverture, and in 2006, Georges Sarre called for Louverture's remains to be transferred. So I am removing the entry which indicates that Louverture was interred in 1803, which would be immediately after his imprisonment by France. This seems rather unlikely. [edit] Liturgical functions

The article states: "after many changes now combines liturgical functions with its role as a famous burial place." Are there actually any religious rites still performed in the Pantheon? That seems to contradict a later paragraph. Mrglass123 (talk) 21:07, 3 February 2008 (UTC)Mrglass123

[edit] Clovis I?

Is this the same Church of Genevieve that was built by Clovis I (according to the Chronicle of St. Denis, I.18-19, 23)? This is not my area of expertise, so could someone with the proper resources check it out? Thanks. Aryaman (☼) 19:17, 29 March 2008 (UTC)

Sorry, I think I already found the answer...Aryaman (☼) 19:19, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
