The Wikipedia isn't a companies "who's who" directory of businesses. The title is also a Wikipedia category that points to panorama photography software and the companies that had a major impact on the creation of the industry. The deletion topic has been brought up before so I couldn't complete the deletion request process. Can a Wikipedia editor with more experience help with resolving this naming conflict? If a search is done on "panorama software", this page shows up instead of the categories page. John Spikowski 18:45, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

I removed the speedy delete tag - let's take the discussion to the AfD page. Wikiolap 19:13, 16 May 2007 (UTC)
The AfD discussion the article links to is old, the article has been recreated since, and it is not a copyvio anymore. Please open a new AfD. Wikiolap 19:15, 16 May 2007 (UTC)

If the page is to remain, can it be renamed to Panorama Software Ltd. so that it doesn't conflict with the Category Panorama Software? John Spikowski 03:33, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

This sounds good. I will rename this page to Panorama Software (BI) in order to avoid conflict with category. Wikiolap 04:40, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

The redirect doesn't solve the problem. We are back to square one. If you search on "panorama software" then your directed to this renamed page. Can the redirection be removed and "Panorama Software" page be declared a category and not reused again? John Spikowski 05:54, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

I beleive this is resolved now after you removed #REDIRECT tag. Wikiolap 16:59, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

The best solution would be to remove the Panorama Software page altogether so the "Panorama Software" category is found when doing a search instead of this blank page with a category reference. John Spikowski 18:18, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

Just notice the new "Panorama software" category changed from "Panorama Softweare" This should cover the bases. I would like to thank all who help resolve this conflict ! John Spikowski 18:22, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Royal mess

OK, somebody is going to have to come to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Panorama Software and explain what they're doing. Is the point to delete "Panorama Software (BI)" as an unnotable company or a bad article? Or is the point to delete "Panorama Software" as a redirect/stub/whatever that allegedly conflicts with a category (which is not a reason for deletion; and if it's a redirect, it should be at Wikipedia:Redirects for deletion). Is the intent to create a header article for the category Category:Panorama software that will reside at Panorama Software? That should not be done, because the capital S means it's a proper name. The only topic on Wikipedia with that proper name is the company. I suppose an article Panorama software could serve that purpose, but unless this is truly the most common name, it's probably not the best idea to have it conflict with an existing article with the same proper name. (See blogger and blogger.com for similar confusion, not to mention Category:Bloggers.) At the moment, there is no afd notice on any article, and the AFD should probably be closed or extended for that reason. --Dhartung | Talk 06:13, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Explanation for removing prod template

The company is notable for inventing and developing OLAP technology which was acquired by Microsoft and became basis of Microsoft OLAP. This is explicitly stated in the article. The term Business Intelligence is not a buzzword, it is a real term, and BI industry is real as well. Wikiolap 17:41, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Requested move

Panorama Software (BI)Panorama Software — Cleanup after moves & AFD. I recommended a "keep and move" during the AFD but consensus was not reached on any particular outcome and the nomination was withdrawn. The root cause was an editor who wished to highlight a mis-capitalized category by removing the article that had the same name. The end result is an unnecessary disambiguation page and a page on a notable company with a meaningless disambiguation suffix "(BI)". The company's name is Panorama Software, ther is no other article named Panorama Software or even one named Panorama software. The company article already has a hatnote directing users to the category, which is the normal method recommended at WP:DAB. —Dhartung | Talk 02:07, 25 July 2007 (UTC)
