What happened to the original "Panicker" article, on which many people had worked over a long time? It was not perfect, by any means, but conveyed more information about the modern and historical use of the name than the grandiose caste-based account by the sixteen-year-old known as "Manu rocks" who replaced it on 19/11/06. He has managed to erase the whole history of the article before substituting his own.

According to the new editor, Panickers were "greatly respected" "warriors" of the Nair caste, holding an "extremely respectable" position in society, as well as "aristocratic families" from the lower castes and other members of the "nobility" and Christian "commanders"

This romanticised tale has little to do with the situation in the past couple of centuries. Its defects are not remedied by the absurd conclusion that, "All these caste divisions are absent today and have no meaning." NRPanikker 07:59, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

I was the administrator who deleted the article totally last week. After looking at the removed versions I have restored almost everything except those that Geekoshy pasted in from another website. Also I have reverted to the last version before the copied text. Kimchi.sg 08:19, 25 November 2006 (UTC)

By "more than that", do you mean, within that section or something outside the section? Within the section, the 'more' that has been deleted was something in line with what you complained about in your your previous comment as the romanticized view. (Then there was also that part that tried to say Panciker is not one who panicks! That should not have been there at all.) Outside the section, there was only a slight change made to condense the lines at the beginning of the article. 192.30.202.20 15:49, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Unilateral Change of Article Title

Dear Hijjins, Your third strike appears to be changing the Panicker article to Panikar, with the claim that the latter is the correct transliteration of the Malayalam name. As most people know, the spelling of names in English is idiosyncratic: there is no "correct" spelling even for native English names, let alone foreign names like this one. That is true, but Panikar is closer to the original Malayalam than Panicker, especially the "ck" which is not the standard translation for "ka" or even "kka". The "er" is also incorrect since it is supposed to be "ar". The only problem is with the hard "n" sound, which can be shown as a either a double "nn" or the "n subscript dot" (as in Pāṇini). If Wikipedia has a policy of transliterating foreign names, that must be "a custom more honoured in the breach than the observance." It would be a licence to vandalise for every opinionated ignoramus, of which we have not a few already. NRPanikker (talk) 13:36, 9 April 2008 (UTC)
